Turn a picture into a pattern....help again please!!

I tried again to turn this picture a pattern but I failed .... again:P, so I ask your help again. thanks in advance.

I gave it a shot. I'm very new to this pattern making, I'm just practicing. Others can do much better.

Here's another shot. I think her eyes come through. I dropped the headband.

Here is my take on it. She has beautiful eyes, hope I did them justice. I imagine Mahendra will be along shortly then you will have lots of choices.

I'd like to hear what you all are using to make the conversion.

I used Gimp2 grayscale & threshold (once for his side, then again for her side) then a bunch of scrubbing and bridging. Do you use one of the other packages to get started then improvise, or are you just good artists?
