I just spent the morning going thru Steves archives looking for these little yellow triangles to set your work on while you apply a spray finish. I know I've seen them someplace and I would like to order some. Can any one help?

They are called 'painters' points' and are available from Rockler, Woodcraft, and many other stores.

Yup, I have two sets and use them a lot. They came from Woodcraft.

I have made a bunch of Steve's triangle stands and use them all the time for painting and finishing projects. You can make them as large or small as you need.

Some hobby stores have them too.  I keep planning to make some of them in a smaller size for smaller pieces but never did get around to it.

A tip from one of the magazines that I have found very helpful is to get some of that plastic carpet runner.  Get the kind with lots and lots of spikes on the back.  I found it at Home Depot.  The ones at Lowes all had spikes about an inch apart which was too far apart.  Lay it backside up and you have lots of tiny little plastic points for keeping small pieces up from the surface.

I still use the yellow ones for larger pieces but I really like this trick for the little ones.

Steve Good has a pattern somewhere that you can use to make little traingles out fo scrap 1/8th inch baltic birch.  I mades some and they work great for me.

I made my "painters points" out of some round discs leftover from using a hole saw and 1/4" dowel about 2" long. Obviously, the larger the disc, the more stable they will be and the 1/4" hole is already there and dead center. I sharpened the dowel with a pencil sharpener before I cut them to length. There again, you can make them as tall or short as you want to as  long as they are all the same heights.
They work just fine for larger projects and I use them all the time.

I have a bunch that I got for free.  Everytime I get a pizza in a box they have these 4 legged things to keep the pizza from getting stuck to the lid.  i save em up and they make great painters points.
