Back when I was racing (Go Karts) I raced in both gasoline class and alcohol class at different times.
I will tell you this....
Alcohol is more expensive per gallon and it requires twice the gallons to go the same distance.

True that it gives more horse power and the car will go faster, but we also ran gas through the motor when the race was over to clean out the tank and carb.

Alcohol WILL corrode when left in fuel tanks and carburetors not to mention dry out gaskets and cut the protective oil film off of moving parts.
I have been against mixing gas and alcohol since the beginning as a fuel for the normal street vehicle. It just does not make sense to me.
True that the newer cars have different gaskets and o-rings in the motors to fend off the damage done there. But, there again the cost of making the change to the cars along with the cost of the fuel and MPG is just costing the average motorist a lot more per mile traveled than necessary.
I also will say that I live in Kansas and corn is one of our biggest crops grown by farmers here but, even they will tell you that they would rather feed people and cattle with their corn than burn it up in a fuel for commuters. This whole idea is costing EVERYONE a lot more than they might realize.
