Iron Wood
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:23:22 am »
I got some Iron Wood today from a friend. This sure is some hard wood and not very big pieces. I need to find a way to cut the wood into slices and into workable pieces. When I get some pieces cut I will post to show how the wood looks. Not sure what I will make with it yet.

Iron wood/Ipe is brutal on cutters, you may have to band saw it first.

don't know Ironwood so I looked it up on wiki. looks really hard!!
I have cut some pretty hard woods and the UR blades from Mike are doing their job well.
but you have to cut it slow, let the saw do the job.

I am thinking about buying a cheap coping saw to use just for making slices in the wood. I dont have a band saw. Also if I use the coping saw it will be a bit more precise in the cut I think. I cant fit some of the wood pieces in my saw, so I couldnt use my saw even if I wanted to.
