I have read DeWalt moved the manufacturing for the 788 from Canada to Asia.Is this true and if so how do they compare,I have a DW788 from Canada and it has been a great saw.

Yes, about ten years ago! They are identical except the table machining is a little rougher on the type II made in Taiwan. The assembly is a bit lax too.
I have had both a type I and a type II, and they both have the same great features and shortcomings.

I bought a 788 a couple of years ago at the woodworking show for $400 with a stand light and got them to through in 5 packs of blades

Picked up a. 788 type 2 at busy bee last year for  $529 and a type last month for $120 from kijiji

you may want to look at other sites I saw one which included light and stand with free shipping. It was a little more but still less than buying them seperatly. I was going to buy from amazon and they charged over $80 for shipping canceled order and bought from tyler tool.

Look at the delta saw,light and stand is cheaper at busy bee by about $100 and is the same saw only gray and a 5 year warnty
