Lately I have been cutting the scroll saw patterns out of paper just for a change.  I have enjoyed the challenge and it is a lot less dust making (so my wife says!)

I know there are several out there who have cut out the Old Cedar Mill pattern and here is my effort in paper.  The finished piece is 9.25" H X 7.25" W.  It was a real challenge to make the cuts without tearing out parts of the pattern - especially in the water area and the board siding.  Hope you like it.  You can see more of my paper cutting on my new website http://www.mgdunk.com.  I will be adding more pictures of my carving and scroll saw/Intarsia as time permits.

Hi Danny,

Thank you for your kind words.  I don't know if there is a demand for the paper cutting.  I just started doing this about a month ago.  I guess a lot would depend on the subject (as I assume it does in the scroll sawed wood).  I just like the challenge (and the nose that doesn't fill up with saw dust!)

I think the Old Mill turned out awesome.  I worked with a fellow twenty, two years ago, that used to do the same thing and it wasn't until I saw yours that I remembered watching him.

Hi Pete,
Yes the xacto knife with a #11 blade is all I use for cutting the paper.  The fine point on the #11 lets me make the smallest of cuts.  The paper I used for most of the cuttings is just regular 20 lb bond like you find in printers or photocopiers.  The last couple of cuttings have been done with a Japanese Massa paper that I found at a local Art store.  It is about the same weight as the bond paper but it has a lot of small fibers running through it.  It resists tears and make the fine lines of paper that are left (like the boards on the mill) stronger.
