Hand Held Fret saw for scrolling
« on: December 01, 2012, 03:01:54 pm »
Hi Steve,
I am looking into buying a hand held fret saw for some scroll type work.

I was curious if you hand any experience with them.  mainly the blade tensioning.

Its difficult to see online if I can adjust the blade or not and obviously I will need to.

Thanks.

Crupiea, the ones I am familiar with have a "nut" in the handle.  Turning the handle tensions or releases the blade.  Some have a short rod sticking up at each end of the blade.  They allow you to rotate the blade relative to the frame to ease cutting near the limit of the frame.

Good luck with the hand work, I could never get it to work well, I either broke the blade or couldn't follow the line, or both.     :)

It is not so difficult, i saw some years with a handscrollsaw. Please note that the tooth from the blade looks to the handle. saw not so fast.
