Humbly posting my first project
« on: October 30, 2012, 11:38:37 pm »
I've only been using my scrollsaw for a few weeks.  Mostly been making a lot of sawdust out of scrap wood practicing making turns and angle cuts.

This is a cutout of my home state of Michigan showing both the upper and lower Peninsula and the Great Lakes.  I made this in tow versions.  One with the Great Lakes cut out and not showing and this version with the Lakes showing.  After I pasted the pattern to the wood I cut around the lakes and like the way it looked so I left the pattern on.  My brother has it on his desk in his office.

Thanks for looking!

Looks really good Tommy.  It looks to be about 1 inch thick?  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Very nice. Never thought of doing a state, but if I did I would probably try something easier than Michigan. I would have done Colorado. ;) In all seriousness, you did a nice job here. If it makes you feel any better, I am pretty new at scrolling and I spent 3 months making saw dust before I really got into projects. My first project was a cross...it broke. So i made it again, it broke. Third time was the charm. Since then I have learned tons and made some pretty decent things. Keep at it, I look forward to see your next project.

Very Nice.  You don't see a lot of Michigan with the upper included.  Michigan is also my home state and I live in the *Upper*.  Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you all for your kind words.  It's fun getting started.  I used a 1X6 board from Home Depot for this experiment.  Nothing exotic yet.  I've attached another picture of the same piece only without the Great Lakes Showing.  I like it either way.
