Amazing Grace
« on: October 04, 2012, 09:19:09 pm »
I needed to cut something today - going stir crazy.

I'm still waiting for real blades for my cheap scroll saw.  Using the pin blade that came with the saw - seems dreadful, I hope the blades I bought online with be much better.

Only 1/2" wood I had lying around was particleboard, so I practicing cutting particle board, lol.  I hope to buy some nicer wood when I find out where around here (grand junction, colorado) I get it.

I like this pattern, since I get humbled by how poorly I do some lines, I remember His amazing grace in helping me finish it in one piece.  I'm a total perfectionist, but I can have peace at this stage that if I can read the words at all when it's done I did great on it.  ;D

Oh the wood in the background is my desk.  Just laid it down to shoot the photo.

Nice project. I use a lot of 1/4" for stuff like portraits and such. I get Baltic Birch ply from Lowes. It is cheap and has a nice look to it. But for more, hardwoods like maple or walnut has a much nicer look.

Nice work. I remember my first project I made was an Amazing Grace cross. I posted it on Facebook and my cousin loved it and hinted her birthday was coming up. I also remember using nothing but my pin blades. I had my saw for 5 months before I realized I had a pinless adapter for it. I got my blades from Flying Dutchman. Really love their blades. Keep showing us your projects. By the way, my first project was made about 6 months ago.

It's very nicely done. If you have ordered the Flying Dutchman Blades, you will find an immediate improvement in your cutting. After that there is only one thing that will help your cutting improve and that is practice practice and more practice. I know it sounds boring, but the learning curve is very steep and you will find your cutting will improve very quickly. Having said that I think you did a great job on the cross especially as you used the pinned blades.

I got my blades today.  wow they're tiny. I can barely see the teeth on these even with my reading glasses.  I ordered 3 packages of Ryobi 5R blades on ebay for $4.50 + shipping and I got 9 packages of  them today. (108 blades for $6 jackpot!) That's a lot of blades.  They are 1/4 as wide as the ones that came with my saw, and no pin.  awesome.  I just did a test cut and am amazed at the difference in quality.  (It was a royal pain to get the thing hooked up in the camp plain blade adapters the first time.) They cut awesome on 1/2" particleboard.  Very clean cut.  I can't wait to cut something else out.

BTW do blades break often?
