My first scroll saw project - A Cross! L@@K!

I got my scroll saw so I can cut with more accuracy than with my jig saw...never knew you could do art with it!  I did a google search on "what can you do with a scroll saw?" and I was amazed.  Anywho I downloaded a pattern and did a practice piece with one of our left over oak laminate floor tile.  Came out pretty good for a first project with a pin end blade (the holes you have to drill are HUGE)

That turned out very nice for a first project. Did you know you can get adaptors that fit most scroll saws so they can use pinless blades?

Didn't even know about pinless blades when I did it.  Been reading up - "how can they do such intricate stuff when you have to drill a 1/4"+ size hole for the blade?"  

My saw came with two clampy things it says you can attach to a pinless blade and will let you somehow attach it to the saw.  But it doesn't actually give instructions or a diagram on how to do it.  (Harbor freight saw) I ordered some pinless blades so I can try it out whenever they get here (they don't sell pinless blades at my harbor freight, lol)

Welcome to the forum! Looks like your hooked on scrolling! You did a wonderful job for your first project! You will find real fast that plain end blades are the way to go, especially if you plan on doing more fret work.

Nice first project. I bought that Harbor Freight saw when i was waiting for a part for my other saw. To me it is a hassel and a half to deal with the "clampy things" they give with it for pinless blades. But for a beginner it is sufficient enough for sure. Welcome to the hobby. You are now addicted.

Those "clampy things should fit the same way you would fit a pinned blade, the main problem with them is that you need a hex key to fit one on each end of the blade, it is time consuming ane putting it bluntly "it's a pain in the a**e" but it is a method of using the pinless blades. I started out on a similar machine with those "Clampy Things" and used it for quite a while producing some nice work, it just takes a little longer.  I was lucky and had a small win on the lottery and upgraded my machine. I bought myself an EX16 which took about 20 seconds to change the blade from one hole to the next. I had a lot of trouble with that machine and Axminster Power Tools gave great customer service. We tried 5 new machines all to no avail, then they upgraded me to the EX21 free of charge and since then I've had no trouble with it.
