Special Olympics

This past Saturday was the 3rd annual Special Olympics Torch Ride, put on by our local Sheriff Department, and sponsored by many local businesses.  The money made by the ride is used to help send local athletes to the State level olympics.  Unfortunately, I had to work and couldn't ride this year, but I wanted to do something to help out.  So, I made 12 motorcycle puzzles to be used by the deputies to raise money however they saw fit.  There were 6 cruisers, 4 choppers, and 2 sport bikes.  I stained/oiled some of them to give some variety, while some were simply left natural.  All but one were cut from 3/4" pine.  I had one chunk of 3/4" cherry that was big enough to make a cruiser out of, so someone got one just a little more special than the others.  Haven't heard yet how they were received, but I just hope they helped raise a little more money!  Sorry the picture isn't great, I decided to snap a quick pick as I was packing them up to drop off at the sheriff's office.

mainewoods,

Like this and something I might try later for spring when we do the motorcycle rides for childrens hospitals,

Would it be to much to ask where you got the pattern from or share it, thanks

Thank you Dan, Sheila, Todd and Rob!

Rob, all I can share is that I got the patterns from the book Wooden Puzzles from Fox Chapel publishing.  They are also available in issue #27 (Summer 2007) of Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine on pages 54/55!  Enjoy!  They are pretty fun and relatively easy to cut.  I made a mop sander too just for this project.  Wow, does that make sanding a breeze!  Good Luck!

Fine work Glenn, and for a great cause.  I have been involved with Special Olympics in the past and I have learned how much something like this means for some of the athletes.  Well Done Sir.
