a friend at coffee gave me a whole bunch of white oak flooring--this is what I came up with-- I have made 2 so far and sold both of them for $50 each-- they are child benches and are as uncomfortable as heck--one lady bought it for a time out seat for her granddaughter --maybe I am not charging enough?? I have enough wood to make at least 8-10 more and I have a craft show in October--see what happens--Richard

Looks nice Richard! Now consider this, even though you got the wood for free, you still have over $50 worth of wood there in one bench. I get a lot of  free scrap wood that I use for most of the items I make to sell, but yet I price them as if I paid for the wood.
I think you can charge a lot more without any guilt, but that is up to you!

 I agree. I have a rubbermaid storage bin full of mostly white oak in length up to 2 feet and some as wide as 14 inches. I join and plane a group at a time and when I use in a project for sale, I charge as if I had to go an out and purchase the wood at retail My thoughts on that are -  one day I may have to purchase the wood and all of a sudden prices would change if I didn't charge for for the free wood.

The bench looks great Richard.  I think $50 is too low $75 is better.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Ditto to all the above! Way to cheap for the amount of work involved, regardless of the price of the wood.

I agree, I think $75 is a more realistic price. What you need to think about is after you have used all the free wood, and someone asks for a $50 bench will you still be able to make it for that price if you have to buy the wood? (and anyway, your customers you are selling to now think you have had to pay for your wood )

The best price is the highest price someone is willing to pay. If you raise it to $75 and it sells then good price....if not bring it down some...or up some. It is a nice project and the best thing about it is the wood was free. My favorite kind of wood! Thanks for sharing it.

thanks for all the great comments--the bench is 28 high in back-16 inches deep and the seat is at 15 inches--32 inch in length--spend most of one day on prep & assembly--another day on the finish--I got the idea for the bench when a lady at church wanted one like it repaired--as for my price, well I took it to coffee to show the guys how I used the old flooring and a lady asked how much for it-I hadn't really thought about it and said 50 to 75 dollars-- two ladies bought one at 5o with out really taking a breath or looking at it closely --I guess a fast 50 is better than a slow 75 only thing it cost me was time--Richard
