Aurora, CO shooting kills 2 Sailors
« on: July 21, 2012, 11:14:54 pm »
I normally wouldnt post something like this on this forumn, but I am a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. On Friday in Aurora, CO two US Navy Sailors were killed in the massacre in the movie theater. One was an old Shipmate I served with on USS Nimitz. His name was MM1 Jon Blunk. He died while shielding his girlfriend from the deadly fire. RIP Jon, thise of you that have served in the military understand the bond that is formed between men. I pray his family may find peace.

Chief,

As another retired member of our Armed Services, I know and respect the bonds we made over the years.  They are everlasting, dear to our hearts and souls, and unbreakable.

May MM1 Blunk Rest in Peace.  I salute him for his valiant actions.

I too have done my time in the forces, different country, but the same bonds are formed over the years.
MM1 Blunk served his country with pride, then died a true hero saving his girlfriend. I can think of no better epitaph for him, may he rest in peace.
It's all a case of "Mind over Matter",  The Government don't Mind, and I don't Matter.

I think something like this incident makes it harder for families to understand.  When their loved one is killed in a combat zone, they understood the possibility they may not make it back, but when they're killed going to the movies in the heart of their own country, how is a family going to come to grips with that?!

Along with the two Sailors, an Air Force Reservist was also killed.

Thoughts go out to all their families.

No problem Chief!  Just wanted to recognize all the service members there.  My thoughts out to all families meant the families of all the victims, those killed and those injured.

Did ya see the video of this A-hole at his initial court hearing?  Looked like the voices in his head were keeping him awake!

My only problem with all the discussion on TV is they are going to blame this on guns.
Rather than on the man wielding them.
If a suicide bomber wears a vest full of C-4 no one jumps up and wants to ban vests or C-4
after he blows up a dozen people.

It is true Guns don't kill people,
PEOPLE kill people!
We mustn't forget this when a tradegy like this takes place.
A determined person can always find a way to cause mayhem.

God rest their souls and comfort the survivors.

Agree Gabby   Someone determined and smart is almost unstoppable, but one person with a concealed carry permit could have made a huge difference

HE was covered in body armor...
ONE slug from a .45 ACP or .44 Mag would have at least knocked him down and would have allowed some of the many HEROES present to disable and disarm him!
It is one thing when he knows he is in control but when someone is shooting back it changes the whole situation!!!

Judy I do understand what you are saying. However in this case, when all the facts were known I believe the only thing a concealed carrier could be charged with would be heroism.

There is a video going around of two bad a$$es breaking into a cyber cafe one with a gun and one with a batt and an elderly gentleman (somewhere between me and GB  :) ) who had his concealed weapon and he shot both of them, and  the law said there would be no charges filed. This was all recorded by the surveilance cameras and nothing of substance was missed including the crooks falling all over each other trying to get away from that "Old Fart" with a gun.
He should receive an award for protecting all those folks in the cafe.

GB I'll bet that armor desn't cover his butt, and a couple rounds in the posterior would ruin his day especially if those rounds took out his hip sockets, I guarantee he would be on the floor like I was a few months ago, crying for his Mama.

Head shot would have saved all the court and legal fees that is going to cost even though there is no question of guilt.
