Hi all,
i'm a relatively new scroll sawer and my experiences in scroll sawling is just the Eiffel tower which i completed from a brought pattern.

My new project which i have set myself a new project of the london eye which moves.  This will require designing, trial and error and maybe using motors for the wheel unless i decide will only move when i spin.

i've come up already with a few designs/patterns to how i'm going to make it however before starting to draw to paper to trial the dimensions i have been searching on wood type and thickness.  I 've searched and people use plywood for models especially baltic plywood.
My question is
1. which plywood and thickness would be suitable for this project?
i've used beech plywood at 6mm thickness for the eiffel tower
any suggestions would be greatful as i see this as a long project
Many thanks

Hey Tony, Welcome to the forum! That sure sounds like an ambitious project! I don't have an answer to help with this project but I do know where you might look. Wildwood designs has a couple of patterns that include a ferris wheel. It uses a small motor to make it rotate. You might get some of your questions answered there: www.wildwooddesigns.com.
If you proceed with your project, please post pictures  as we would love to watch your progress!

Hi Tony,
I think your choice of thickness will depend on the scale you build your London eye. 6mm sounds a bit heavy to me, 4mm might be better.
Baltic or Birch ply would be a good choice in my opinion as this can be cut into thin sections and retain its strength.
 Regards,
Nick.
