would like to try my hand at intarsia and think that squirrel that has been on here would be simple to start with.  But how to you decide what size to make your projects.

What size to make an INTARSIA project is often determined by the subject, amount of content, framing, where & how you plan to display it or just plain personal preference.

I?ve made Intarsia?s all the way from 4? to 48?.

What I use for a guide is: What is it going to look like on a wall.  I want it large enough to look good, viewed from a distance of several feet and still be able to see some detail. Generally, I?ll make an Intarsia, like the squirrel that you referred to, between 12? and 14? tall.  If it were a larger animal or such I would make it between 16? and 18?.  If the Intarsia has a lot of content or is to be framed, with a background, I take that into consideration and adjust the size accordingly.
