Spoiled
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:28:14 pm »
I got my new EX21 for Christmas and now I am spoiled. There is NO noise, NO vibration, and the only time I replaced a blade was when it could NOT cut any more. What a saw.  The old saw was loud, vibrated badly and would break blades constantly. SO I am spoiled :-[,     but lov-en it.    Now how ofter should I oil my new saw? and any other tips would be good. ;D     Happy cuttin everyone.

Well Clyde, I suppose you should consult your owners manual. The DeWalt requires no maintenance at all as all the barrings are sealed.
It's nice to have a top notch saw isn't it?

oil attracts particles of dirt.  I use the dry lubricant sprays on my vacuum motors.  I also prefer to vacuum my saw instead of blowing it off with a compressor.  The forced air drives particles in where they won't come out easily.  I use a 150 cfm motorized vacuum and nothing less.  It can suck a walnut out of an uncracked shell.

Funny thing - I still have my first scroll saw sitting on the floor at the back of the shop - looks like I can't even give it away.  Still works - loudly and lots of vibration.

Yep, newer, nicer, well built equipment can spoil just about all of us.

Happy cutting.

You NEVER have to oil your saw.  The only maintenance on it is to keep it clean.  Periodically get under it and wipe it down good.  Double check for square.  If you don't rotate your head often, you shouldn't even need to adjust that.  If you tilt with some regularity and need to adjust from time to time, loosen the 4 screws on the front and back plates and adjust the trunion.  Easy as pie.  Glad you are enjoying the new saw.
