Good New/Bad News

Well, I finally took the leap and purchased a Delta 40-690 from Woodcraft.  The fact that it was on sale for $349 made it too good to pass up, and my wife, knowing I've been hankering for a new/better saw for over a year now, agreed I could spend the money.  I've been saving a little here and there to put towards a new saw, but since my wife's hours have been cut to nearly a third of what they were, it's hard to justify spending that much on something that isn't needed.  However, the Woodcraft price tag made it a lot easier pill to swallow!  ;D

Now for the bad news....
The closest Woodcraft store to me is 2.5 hours away, in New Hampshire!  I've already purchased the saw over the phone, but I won't be able to go pick it up until next Sunday (Feb 4)!!!  I work 6 days a week and can't go tomorrow (Sunday) due to a family obligation.  >:(

It's gonna be a long week!!!  :'(

I got a new EX21 for Christmas. It was sitting in my basement from Nov 1 to Dec 25th, (wifes rules). I had to look at it every day. But you know what?  The anticipation and your appreciation you have for your new saw makes it all worthwhile.  I am sure you will enjoy your new saw when you get it. ;)

It will be worth the wait in the end. Let us know what you think when you finally get to make dust fall with it.

I purchased the 40-490 from Woodcraft when it went on sale on Cyber Monday for the same price.  All I can say is, if you are as happy with yours as I am with mine, you will have a smile permanently attached to your face.   Make sure you spend the extra $20 and get the ez lift.  Made a couple of adjustments when I got it (if a "women" can do it you can to if needed) and it cuts like a dream.

Reminds me of the old Carly Simon song "Anticipation".
"Measure twice, cut once, count fingers"

Congrats on the new toy.  Piece of advice.  Take along a straight edge with you.  Since it is such a long drive, insist on opening the box and taking out the table-- check to make sure it (the table) is flat while you are at the store.  Some of the tables  have a dip or rise near the blade entry hole.  It may save you a trip back to exchange a defective saw.

Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it.

@dunk  Good advice!  I'll try to remember to take something with me, but if I forget, I'm sure I can find something in the store that'll work.  ;)

@peterjf50  There isn't a Woodcraft store in Portland, or anywhere else in Maine.  Closest one is in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  Wish we had one here.  Portland or Bangor would be easier than Portsmouth, but it's still not bad.
