The Little Church (Lighting) HELP !!!
« on: May 18, 2011, 07:35:14 pm »
Steve, where can I find the right kind of cord (for wiring) the light in your little church house pattern. I know it is called a lamp cord. But I am having a really big problem finding where I could get one. I found them on Amazon.com but I really don't need 10 of them. Can you help?

Try the lighting department of lowes or home depot, or the hardware store.

You can always do what I do I go around to the thrift stores buy old UGLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYY lamps and then tear them apart so I always have parts for such things (I do other things the Scrolling). I agree with Dan whatever you do DO NOT CUT IT while it is plugged in or you will have a SHOCKING momment (Sorry couldn't help myself going to my corner now for my time out for that bad joke lol)

If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area they carry small light kits like the one I used. Here is a link to the one I purchased. You can find similar ones at most hobby store.

Dan Dan Dan, I thought being a plumber you would have figured it out!?
Smash and trim some 1/4" copper tubing (2 pieces) to fit the electrical socket. Wrap each one with duct tape for insulation then wrap them both together with duct tape so they don't flop around separately. Shave the other end of the tubing to attach to the light bulb. Plug in! ;D
Uhm, when the smoke clears I might have a better look at what happened! ::) :o
I hear sirens! Sure hope no one is in trouble!  :-\ ::) :o

They also sell it at Hardware Stores like Lowes and Homedepot it's SPT-1, SPT-2, or SPT-3 wire.  It will be soon hard to fine because all of us that put Thousands of Christmas lights out use it to make extenion cords.  The only difference between SPT-1 through SPT-3 wire is the out side coating.

I also scrounge thrift stores and flea markets for lamp parts. I make a lot of lamps and buying the parts at retail is not practical for turning a profit without jacking up your product price. But any big box hardware store will sell lamp chord in pre packaged units. Just wire the socket and done..

Another good place to buy old ugly lamp is yard sales.  Cheap Cheap Cheap.

Why couldn't you use the light they use in christmas villages??  Being christmas time all the stores have them.  Dollar tree, Big lots, walmarts, etc.

I am in a lighting my self what I would use is a set if led Christmas lites they have no heat out put and they also come with replacements. Heat Plus Wood = a fire hazard. Besides LED lighting is used in building up a HO rail systems to light Buildings.
