grandma uses a piece of plywood for the base of her village, and a mirror for the pond. I don't know if that helps at all.

This is probably not what you are looking for, but here's a quick and easy village. http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/Uploads/Public/Documents/Issue289/WJC099%20Christmas%20Puzzles.pdf

Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Are you talking about one that sets on top of a mantle or one that you set up outside?  I have a huge christmas village and how I was able to acquire it was to buy pieces after christmas when everything was 50 to 75 per cent off.  Took me several years but I saved a ton of money.

The ones you put on mantel. i thougth about doing that too but i think if i start making them they will be something that means more and can make into a family tradition as my girls get older we can make a house together or a piece. i might have to look at some and design my own for a a small village

Ok.  I found some village patterns for paper but I think you could convert to wood.  I change patterns around all the time.  Stained glass patterns I use in scrollsawing and scrollsaw patterns for stained glass or woodburning.  Have you given any thought to coloring book pictures for a pattern for different styles of houses, trees, churches, etc?  Do you want people too??

I found a book with some 3D patterns you might be interested in. It is *A scroll saw christmas* by Frank Pozsgai.  it can be purchased from Woodworkers Shop.com.  It has a step by step instructions for a 3D Santa and Reindeer plus 30 other christmas patterns.

another site you may want to take a look at is www.freesawpatterns.com/scrollsawwoodpatterns/?page_id=12

Also google *antofret* this is something very interesting.
