Knocking out Keychains..
« on: November 20, 2011, 03:35:14 pm »
I took a freebie-keychain to my favorite nurse at my Doctor's office and walked out with 33 orders for keychains from 6 nurses and two Doctors! I do these out of 1/4 inch red oak, lemon oiled. I get $5 per keychain and can't keep up with the orders,LOL. Makes for lots of saw-time and helps with the bills. Plus they're fun to cut!

So good to see! :)  I am happy for you.  What a fun way to 'play Santa' while playing in the sawdust. :)

I took orders for eight of that style key chain one time. My rate was $3.00 each.
I learned the hard way to charge $1.00 per letter.
The customer wanted to use LAST names and the shortest one had eight letters in it!! Each one of the 8 took twice as long to cut than a normal 4 or 5 letter first name.  ;D
One of the key chains ended up about 1/2" square and 3" long!  ::)

Thanks all for the nice comments. I've always had a hard time doing pricing on my work. So I ask the buyer what they would pay,and the general consensus was that $5 for the key chains is a fair price. Although when I get a name like "Alexandria" I cringe, lol

I made one from bloodwood for a receptionist @ my doctors office last year and her daughter managed to break it.  I made her a replacement slightly larger, and out of paduk.  Let's see her break that one!
