For the Ford Truck owners out there

Long story short, my '07 F-250 got a flat tonight. No biggie, right? I just jack the truck up, take off the flat tire, grab the spare. Oh, why can't I lower the spare from under the truck? Oh...you need to get the "spare tire key" that is SUPPOSE to be in the glove box and use that to lower the spare tire. Now I bought my truck new and this is the first flat I have gotten. NO "SPARE TIRE KEY" anywhere to be found in the truck, and I searched everywhere. So, truck towed home, because AAA doesn't have the tool either, and off to the dealer and tire shop tomorrow to get it all fixed.

Point of the story...make sure you have that special "key" before you get that flat, because it might not be there. And why do you need a SPECIAL key anyway to get to your spare. AAARRRGGGGGGG!!!!!

Can't believe I had to get my truck towed because of a flat... :-[

With out a special key, you may not have had a spare tire to put on!
However, I must agree that the dealership should foot the tow bill for not making sure that the key was where it should have been.
Insted of a tow truck, you should have called the dealership or even a tire store for help. I'm sure either one would have a key and be happy to help. Again, any cost should be picked up by the seller of the truck.

Sounds like your buddy "Murphy" was hanging out with you! A four year old truck is going to be out of warranty, so the only one responsible is you. :(

Really just posting this story for fun, and any other Ford owners to check to see they have the "key".

@RapidRoger: Couldn't call either one last night since it was almost 8:00 pm and both were closed. Will be contacting both today obviously. No cost for the tow since I have AAA.

@dgman: Yeah, MURPHY did show up, and I agree its my responsibility, just sharing a story, but when you buy a new car do you really check for the spare tire key? If you do your better than me.

@slowcutter: Me too, but it wouldn't of worked since it was the sidewall that failed.

Thanks for the info CNLNC. I agree about ole MURPHY showing up. Since you mentioned it our new Camaro has special lug nut to keep the rims from getting stolen. I better check to see if we have the socket.  8)

A few years ago, I got a flat on an old work truck. Went to get the spare, and it wasn't there. The cable that holds the spare tight against the truck bed was broken. Have no idea where the spare ended up! :o

You know I'm a firm believer in fate and I believe that everything happens for a reason. If you didn't have your truck towed that evening and was able to change the tire yourself any number of things could have occurred. The jack could have slipped or much worse you could have been hit by another driver passing by. Most of the time those spare tires lose pressure because be honest how many people actually check the tire pressure in your spare.

No, in hindsight I think you will come to realize that having your truck towed even for a flat tire was the smartest thing you could have done. For whatever reason it just wasn't meant for you to be wrestling around changing a tire at that moment.
