A couple "C I" moments....
« on: October 21, 2011, 03:31:22 pm »
You guys are going to get bored with these but I gotta tell you...trying to spread the word about these wonderful tools for us 'deef' folks!

When I got home yesterday I wound and set my antique mantel clock. the first time it chimed I nearly jumped out of the chair. So I listened to it ticking in the background the rest of the day. This morning I'm standing in the bathroom, about 25 feet from the clock with the door almost closed and the thought struck me..."There's that clock ticking!"
I've been working at the desk all day and the damn thing was driving me nutzo! I finally had to stop the pendulum to get some peace and quiet...

Yesterday before we left I noticed that our annual visitors are back on the pond out back. About 30 geese and 10 ducks winter over here all the time. This morning I noticed that my son didn't put the thermometer back up when we sealed the deck last weekend so I opened my sliding door to check for the bracket. Just then something startled the flock and they were raising a ruckus as they took flight!
Ain't heard nothing like that in a long, long time!

It gets better almost every minute!!!!!

;D GB I for one will not get bored of you sharing your joy. Reading this brought tears of happiness for you to my eyes. It must be a miracle to you. Reading this makes me thankful for my hearing, which those of use who hear well take for granted.

Keep posting my friend, wonder what your next sound discovery will be.

Am so glad for you.

Please, continue to share the stories.  New discoveries are a wonderful thing.  Many of us take those familiar sounds for granted.  Enjoy the new sounds in your life.

GB that's great news.
I remember when I got my aids. The first time I took a pee I looked all over for Niagara Falls. There was so many things that I didn't ever remember hearing.

sounds good!

It's always good to hear something like this - I like it much more than the other news we hear all day long.

OK..I will continue.
I have already been contacted by the manufacturer to join a local representative as an "Advocate" to 'get out and spread the word' about hearing loss and CI's.

I am an active volunteer with OASIS which is a seniors' group that puts on educational, informational classes for seniors on all subjects. They have been following this and want me to develop a program for them to present.

It almost seems like there is a total vacuum of knowledge of CI's in the senior communities. Through my volunteer working with OASIS I see hundreds of older adults at all types of presentations. Because of my wearing a hearing aid I tend to notice them on other people. Of course with the newer types, CIC's (completely in the canal) a lot of them are now hidden. Over the last 4 years working with "O" I have not seen a single CI and I am certain there are folks out there that could benefit from the device.

So, for the benefit of the folks here I am going to start another thread here in the Coffee Shop and title it simply "Cochlear Implant Information". Those who find it interesting and helpful can follow along. Those not interested can simply skip over it and still be aware that it is here if they find a need.

I don't think Steve or Russ will have any objection to me presenting this information. If so, they will let me know and I can make other arrangements, possibly a 'blog' somewhere else, which I am also considering. Hell, maybe i'll do both, I am going to have a lot to say on the subject!

So stay tuned!!!

GB, I haven't posted much, but have read all of your posts with great interest and am really happy for your success in restoring your hearing.  A true blessing for you.

I want to encourage you to not only continue to post here, but also to create that blog you mentioned doing.  My reasons are that I know from experience that there are MANY people out there feeling lost about their own health problems, be it hearing or some other issue, and wondering what to do.

Personally, I am diabetic and am very active on a chat thread for diabetics. Nearly every day someone who was just diagnosed joins us, looking for answers and support. They know they have diabetes, but now what? What foods can they eat, when, what meds, and most of all, what does the future hold for them?  The more experienced folks answer these questions and give support, encouragement.

My wife has a different disease, pulmonary billiary cirrhosis (PBC) that affects the liver and is life threatening. Not much was known about this disease just a few years ago when a few women diagnosed with it formed a group and started a blog.  Since then it has grown, doctors have joined, and a cure is being sought. She is one of the founders and very active on their thread as well. Again, new people join nearly every day, totally lost on what to do now, needing help and assurance.  They get it on that thread.

I really commend you for all that you're already doing, GB, and encourage you to continue spreading the word, giving others that hope and support.
Your web footed friend in Seattle, WA.
