Dewalt Type 2 788 questions
« on: October 05, 2011, 08:42:20 pm »
I have a 788 that is just about a year old..  What I find is that speed past says 6, it gets pretty loud..  Not sure if it's the knocking issue or not, but it sounds more like it's not in the front of the saw, but more in the back.

Also, I use a foot switch when sawing.  But seems that every time I'm done with a cut, when I go to lift the upper arm up, I have to tap the foot switch to make the blade arms move just a bit, then it lifts up all the way.  Otherwise it only lifts up like 3/4 of the way.

Anyone got an idea on what is causing this?

Hey Wolfmoon, Welcome to the forum! The problems you describe are very common with the 788. I rarely run my saw above 6, But when I do, it does get louder. The lifting arm issue is typical with the type II. I don't know of a remedy for it.

I'm thinking someone just talked about a similar problem and it's due to the counterbalance and just needs to get off top or bottom dead center, kind of like bumping your starter to get it to turn over a bit if you are fighting compression.
Hope this helps,

I just read through a website that addresses this problem.  Here is the link:
