I'm pro bro!
« on: September 15, 2011, 05:05:05 am »
This morning I used a little time to go to the city hall to register my profession as a wood worker. I need that to be able to sell on platforms like etsy and dawanda (german version).

I don't know how it's regulated in US, but in Germany you have to register, make sure the tax office knows what your expectations on profit are and have to fight with the chamber of commerce and industry about weather you have to register there or not.

So first step is done - my shop is registered. I'm pro bro!  ;D

Thanks Heiko. Do you have a business registered? I'm wondering how the IHK (chamber of commerce and industry) will be done.

It is good to be "OFFICIAL"  :D  Someone once told me that the difference between a professional and an amature is that the professiional can charge more. Better up those prices.  Best of Luck!!!!

A problem I see is once you are a professional and have a business licensed and all that you may be required to collect sales taxes, and then there is the paper work you will have to file, next thing you know you will have to hire an accountant to keep your books or spend hours doing them yourself. As long as you are an amateur you stay away from all the red tape. I would think the government would have their hand out for income taxes as well.

*lol* Gabby that's fine. I like paying taxes  :o I get all those things when I pay taxes - most comes double back  ;D
Mrs. Wife is my financial accountant  ;) beside of that I have a couple of friends in that sector - I hope they  would help me and not "charge" too much BBQ's ;D

Naa, the wood shop remains a hobby and I'll proceed as before. Only difference is that I'm able to sell officially. And there are some right & duty for me. But that's fine.

Torsen!!! You really have to delete that post!! If the U.S. government sees that you said you like paying taxes they will (we will) make you an honorary US citizen for tax purposes  :-\ :-\

Congrats to ya Torsten!

I hear ya Gabby. I'm doing a craft fair this weekend and just got a Vendor Sales and Use Tax document for the state of KY. I don't mind paying my fair share, but since I can't control what my $$ get used for, I object to the state collecting off my hobby. I really like these shows because I get to meet people and often make them smile (as well as having them make me smile). I guess the government has finally found a way to tax a smile. (OK, I'm off my soapbox.)

Gene, not different at all. I still have to search for my pencil and the Japanese saw I'm using for the pre-cuts still needs the same effort to cut.

Only difference: I'm allowed to sell my stuff.
