Axminster scroll saw
« on: August 02, 2011, 06:10:18 am »
Hi all I'm new to the forum although I've been reading for about 18 months now.

I am in the process of looking for an upgrade to my cheap scroll saw I originally bought about 20 months ago.  I have been looking at the Axminster Awfs18 Fretsaw.  The machine seems to be able to do everything that I wish but I dont want to pay ?328.96 only to find in a few month that I would have been wiser to have waited and bought something else a bit pricier.

Has anyone used this machine and if so what are your thoughts?

I would be grateful for any advice on this matter.  I live in the UK so certain scroll saw are unavailable over here such as the dewalt.

Thanks

Aubec

Go for it. In the price category also to mention is a simpler Hegner saw. But the AWFS18 will be a good choice.

I have been in your situation and finally broke down and purchased and Excalibur 30. It is well worth the money, time, and effort.

I brought the same saw over here in NewZealand about18 months ago.
Over here it's called Carb-A-Tec.
have had not problems with the performance, I have changed to the Hegner Blade Holders with the clock key screw.

Hi aubec,
almost next door to you.
the axminster awfs18 is a realy good saw, very happy with mine,
veriable speed good blade changing system only a little vibration at full speed reasonably quiet.
I got the Excalibur so I could Top feed, To be honest I think I like the axminster better, but having paid ?500 for the Excalibur  I am lumbered.
I was going to sell the awsf18 on e-bay in the near future, ?150
would be my asking price, its a very good saw works perfect, just a little chipped paintwork, its nearly  three and a half years old and just bean used as a hobby.  Cheers  Geoff3
