I glued the base on to the project I'm working on, can I still oil it or will the glue let go.

As long as the glue is dry you will have no problems

Yes, as long as the glue is dry you will not have a problem. I use Aleene's Tacky Glue. I routinely oil projects 30 minutes after gluing. I have not had a single failure in twenty years!
