Clock Insert

I went to the Woodcraft site looking for the clock insert you used in the humming bird clock and no longer find 142320. I have never used an insert and notice they have several other 2 3/4" clocks which would work in terms of the clock circumference. However the one I like says it needs a depth of 13/16. I assume that since the front of this clock is cut from 1/4 but has several inches behind it that the clock will work. Again, I have no experience with clock inserts and thought I would ask the question rather than order something I can't use.

Hey Gary. The most important thing is the size of the mounting hole. Make sure you know the size needed. The thickness should not be a problem. The insert will be able to grab onto the 1/4" material. If the insert needs thicker material, you can glue on a piece of wood on the inside of the wood to make it thicker. It wont show from the out side of the clock case.
I always drill the hole with a forstner bit instead of cutting it on the scroll saw. I have bits for all the insert sizes. It might be a little expensive but it is worth it.

Hey Gary,  there are a lot of places to get clock inserts that are less expensive that woodcraft.  You might check out clockit, meisel hardware, wildwood, winfield, cherry tree.

Thanks for the information. I thought the depth was what was needed to house the clock so to speak, thus if you have more not a problem. I also appreciate the tip on less expensive sources. Thanks to both of you..
