where do I cut
« on: May 12, 2010, 01:32:00 pm »
this is simple, but I am confused.

Shouldn't I cut the red out, leaving the white?
But won't that leave floaters, which I could glue to the back piece.

Making Steve little box from a couple of weeks, but adding a different symbol.

TIA

I would think that you could cut it either way. I think the pattern was originally made to cut out the white part, as the red is connected to the ends, but I am sure if you want, you can cut out the red, leaving a negative image of the symbols and gluing it to the back board as you mentioned. Be sure to post a picture when you are done! :)

I believe Sheila is right. Cut out the white leaving the red.  :D

If you cut out the Red leaving the white you would have too many floaters. Based on that I would cout out the white leaving the red portion with no floaters.

Here is another little trick you could try if you cut out the RED and mount the symbol the with a sharp knife cut out the extra pieces I would make the these as thin as you can to make it easy to cut with a knife

I might have to try this on paper first.  If I cut the white.  then I am only cutting the inner white, because the outer white is actually the top. so I can't cut the outer white.  So the symbol won't show if only the inner white is cut.

My head hurts.

Ok what box pattern of Steve's are we talking about. The one from a couple of weeks ago I am thinking of is the secret locking box. If that is the one then you would cut out all white and the remaining red would mount on the lid replacing the origional symbol. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2010-04-01T00%3A00%3A00-04%3A00&updated-max=2010-05-01T00%3A00%3A00-04%3A00&max-results=40

Yes to do that lid you would have to cut the Red out.
Don,t be afraid to experiment it is a good way of learning
