Brown paper bag for sanding

I also tried your idea about using a piece of brown paper bag between top coats and it worked great to make it smooth.
It dulled the finish of the satin spray coat so I didn?t use it after the final coat.
Do you use it after the final coat?

Hey Jim, I use semi gloss lacquer. I will sand with the brown paper bag if the final finish is not smooth. The sanding will dull the semi gloss slightly, and that's OK as I don't like a gloss finish. Usually if you sand between coats, the final coat should be nice and smooth!

I don't always "sand" the final coat. It just depends on what I want it to look like. For a fine professional finish I like to give it a coat of Minwax and just rub the dickens out of it. That seems to give it a warm, soft glow.
