I live about 30 miles from Daniel Boone's home in Defiance/Marthasville, MO.
He actually did make his own casket and kept it under the rope bed in which he and his wife slept.
He would occasionally slide it out and 'try it on for fit' so that he could re-do it if he put on weight!
He also built wood cabinets surrounding the fireplace chimney in which they stored their clothes and bedding so they would be warm when ready for use! Each of the banks of cabinets also had built-in 'hidden' cabinets in which they hid their valuables and a gun or two 'just in case'.

Wow... that's cool about Daniel Boone's house.  Do you have pictures?

Dustyknees - Make sure you use screws and not nails too :)

I think I'm going to just make a wooden scroll to hold when I'm in the casket.  Maybe it could say "Ashes to Ashes, Sawdust to Sawdust".  hehehe.

No pics and haven't been there for a few years. I'll check around and see if there is a website. The "Pioneer Village" and home are now owned by Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO.
They use it for a teaching lab and students act as guides and docents.

For those of you looking to use wax on their tables take a look at Topsaver. I use it on all of my tops and it really does a great job.

Janet, "Ashes to Ashes, Saw Dust to Saw Dust" might just become a sign I hang in my booth!!!! LOL
