I grew up in South East Kansas, but I have lived in Illinois for a long time. My sister still lives in Oswego, Kansas. We go to see her and go to Joplin a lot. Anyway's. I was watching the news about a couple looking for his sister in Joplin and the didn't know for sure where they were (no street signs or land marks). I got to thinking (it hurt for a long time). If you have a TomTom, put everyones address in it. That way you can find friends and family when something happens. Also take it to the shelter with you and make sure it is charged and backed up. I did mine today.

I don't think you have to put the address's in ahead of time. If you know the address, it would still apply after a disaster and you could wait until you really needed it. Taking the quickest route may be a problem however do to streets being blocked or closed off however. In that case, just enter "detour" and it will give you an alternate route. At least that is the way my Garmin works.
