Going to jump on the bandwagon here. Both look great.  Sometimes it's hard to look at your mistakes but nobody else sees it. (still trying to learn that trick)

I believe you should never underestimate your work.
Sometimes we've all been there, I know it's frustrating, yet rewarding is the power to fix it.
Your effort paid off, it looks great, you should feel proud that

thanks for all the comments. I decided to put the cuttings away in different spots for a couple of days and come back with fresh eyes to see if I liked both. I checked this morning and decided that I really like the black hat. I am glad I gave it a chance, although I bet it would have made a pretty fire

To burn or not to burn..... what was the question. I think it adds character,  to known that this piece it is unique makes it more valuable. Anyone can cut the pattern but not like this one. I say "KEEP it"
