Hardwood thickness

Hello all.
I have just found a supplier for all those nice looking hardwoods that a lot of you use, who is fairly close(300km) to me and my question to you is - what is the best thickness and widths of these woods to buy. I  would like to buy the sizes that are most useful. Can you purchase these woods in various thicknesses, say between 1/4" and 3/4"? I would love to hear your expert opinions. Thanks...

Bruce, I plane allot of my own woods, but sometimes I have to order when I don't have what I need. I will always try to get the widest boards I can get. The last time I ordered wood was from Ocooch Hardwoods. I ordered all 1/4" thick boards in 8" and 12" widths, all 24" long. I got some Maple, Cherry and walnut.
I also use 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" boards depending on what I am making.

Hi Bruce.  Most of the suppliers of fine wood don't plane it below 1/2".  I have 3 great stores in the Austin area that does fine and exotic woods but none of them go below 1/2".  I find it easier to order my wood through the internet for the smaller thicknesses.  Also, these local suppliers only sell whole boards which is way too much for most of our projects.

The lumber yard I use only sell 1 inch or thicker so I resaw on the band saw to the thickness I need.

Bruce, I usually buy 8"x24" wood so I can get 3 8x8's out of it.  I buy 1/2" and 1/4" mostly.

I have a good supplier right in town but mostly resaw and plane to my specific needs from rough cut. It's cheaper that way and I can tweak the thickness my design calls for to suit my mood.
