Craftsman Scroll Saw
« on: March 24, 2011, 11:34:21 am »
Being a newbie to the scrolling world I went to Sears and bought a Craftsman scroll saw. Its not a bad saw, nothing like the high dollar saws but it serves pretty well.
Last November the tensioner broke on the saw and so I contacted Sears to have the saw repaired, since I had purchased the in-home warranty agreement. Sears sent a lawnmower mechanic to my home to repair the saw. To say the least, all he did was stare at the saw and say, "I work on mowers and tillers, I don't know anything about scroll saws."
The mechanic called his office, ordered a part that they thought might fix the problem, and would leave. The part arrived at my home and I would call Sears again to have the mechanic come back to my home to repair the saw.
This call, make order, receive part, call again for service has been going on for 5 months. The last time the mechanic came he took my saw to the repair center in Texarkana, TX. After about 2 weeks of not having my saw I called Sears to check on the progress of the repairs and they could not find my saw anywhere. It had magically disappeared from the face of the earth. To say the least I was a little bit POed.
I finally get my repaired saw back and they had broken the table hinge in shipping. Again, call, make appintment, get part scenario. To anyone who may be reading this post, stay away from Sears because they do not back their equipment or service. To teach Sears a lesson I cancelled my credit card with them, like that is going to put a hole in their pockets.

Exactly GB.

5 months to fix one scroll saw. I hope Sears never gets into the medical industry. They would probably send out a carpet layer for cardiovascualr surgery.

It is defiantly not the same ole Sears I grew up with. The quality of Craftsman products has gone to po-poo.  :o

Years ago, before the gray hair, I owned a security company and part of what we did was install alarms.  I used to buy Klein tools, and one of my Journeyman installers always bought Craftsman.  About twice a month he would take in a broken tool and get it replaced, no questions asked.  One day, while standing in line at Customer Service in a Sears to return a tool, he turned to me and said, ?You should buy Craftsman, they replace broken tools without any hassle.?  I said, ?I skip the middleman and buy Klein.  I don?t have to return them because they never break.?  You could have heard a pin drop in that area of Sear.

I sold Mac tools for 20 years.
When a new kid would need all the tools to get started and could not afford quality Mac items, I would send him to Sears because he could get all he needed for allot less money. I would tell him that when he broke a Crapsman wrench or socket,  he should replace it with a Mac because it was probably one of the most used tools he had and in short order he would have a whole tool box full of Mac tools .....one item at a time.
Know what? It worked like a charm!!! He would get good quality tools over a period of time and I would have a customer for life!!

PS. I will refrain from saying what I REALLY THINK OF Sears.
An ounce of responsablity is worth 10 pounds of state and fedral laws.

I like your way of thinking Rog, also the way you spelled it "Crapsman".  ;)

I myself will never buy sears tools again with the luck I have had with them. Warranty work???? Forget it. I will pay more for a better tool then rely on sears to fix anything. Not the same sears is right. And Mac tools I have some, but surly not enough. Have never had one break yet and love their stuff.
