Thanks every one for your ideas! I will be doing others too. Just tried this one first.
It is 1/4" Poplar, dipped in lemon oil, letting it dry and then to be clear coated.

Torsten, it is 4-1/2" by 1-1/2" I probably could have shortened it a little more

fun little project. Glad that we could help. Have you thought about using either the inlace or clay as an inlay material? It might look cool
