Judy's Fantasy Masks
« on: February 09, 2011, 07:39:57 pm »
Several months ago Judy posted patterns for several fantasy masks.  I've never cut one yet but I plan to this weekend as a birthday present for a brother who loves all things New Orleans.  I thought I'd paint it up in Mardi Gras colors.

I'm stuck on trying to figure out how to prepare the mask for display.  That would influence whether I cut it from 1/4" or 1/8" BB.   I'm terrible at figuring out this kind of thing!  I don't see anywhere big enought that I could put a normal piece of hanging hardware on it so I am thinking I'll need to mount it somehow.  I thought I'd run it past all you creative folks to see if you have any ideas for me.

Thanks!

You might want to mount them to a base plate using dowel rods. Just an idea.

How about routing a t-slot in the back for hanging from a screw?

I just drilled a couple of fine holes in the top edge, cut some fine gold cord, glued the ends, let dry like shoe lace ends then just glued into the holes with gorilla super glue.

Jimbo, it was back in June I believe.  Unfortunately, with the regular picture clean ups, they are long gone.

Thanks, Judy!  I was hoping you'd see this and tell me what you did but I didn't want to address it just to you in case you missed it.   :)  That sounds like a good solution.  I'd thought about a frame or even a shadow box but both ideas seemed like they would detract from the mask itself.  I like your idea - simple but elegant.

Thanks for the other suggestions too.  I don't think there's enough there to route any more than enough room to attach hardware.  And I wanted it to hang rather than sit.  But thanks for the ideas because I can store them in my head for potential use with future projects.
