The Fimo Thing

Hey!

Had a fine evening with lots of "designer firewood"  

Also tried Steve's pattern for jewelery with Fimo-inlay.



As you can see, the teddybear (original size is 1 3/4" x 1") is all read after sanding. How is this supposed to be working out? is my Fimo not really baked enough?

Can someone please explain to me how this Fimo inlay techniques works?

do you have an air compresser? I have gotten rid of the red (mine was pink though) by blowing compressed air across the project. Sometimes a damp cloth will let you do a bit of scrubbing, but you will have to wait for it to dry again. How long did you bake it? If it is still soft I would think it would "smear" more then if it was dry.

I had trouble with some wood filler I used for an inlay and it was black, so I used a wood with a closer grain and it solved the problem, although I sill had to damp wipe the surface

I baked it ca. 40 minutes at 110?C /230?F. The Fimo seems to be hard, I could not form it any more.

I will try to use some air or to wipe it.

Will it help to sand the wood before to a lot finer grain? I used my normal 240 sand paper.

Try wiping it with a rag with just a little Mineral Spirits on it. Stay away from directly wiping the Fimo. That worked for me.

Ok, tried some..

They will keep me worm for some minutes as they are all in the designer firewood box now.

I will try to make them again using harder wood. This time it was the most simple poplar plywood.
