white pencils

Hey, folks,

I was making some marks on walnut earlier, then when I sat down at the saw I couldn't see the stupid lines.  So, I Googled white-leaded pencils and found this:

I 'almost hate to say this'... but Back in the Old Days we used the white, yellow and red pencils to mark changes and corrections to "blueprints" which in those days of old were really BLUE with white lines and markings!

I still have some of each in a box that I used as a draftsman back in the late 50's!
Also in the box are my 'ruling pens', bottles of "India ink", lettering guides, compasses, and French curves!

Damn I am getting OLD!!!!!!!!!!

You should be able to find them at a local office supply, or hobby type store, I have seen them in the fabric dept. of wally's world of no good chinese made crap too.

Thanks Bill, I didn't realize they made such a thing. Greybeard, my wife was a layout inspector, she checked parts to blueprint specs, I asked if she had any of her old pencils and all she had was red and green leads. Oh well, I guess I will have to look into getting some white lead pencils.

GB, I have a similar box of lettering guides, curves, drafting pencils, etc., and three or more slide rules.  Anyone want to buy a log-log-decitrig rule??  LOL.  You're not the only "old timer" here.

for marking on dark anything, I use silver quilters pencils ...same as welders pencils.

I use metal marking pencils. I still have all my drafting equipment to including my drafting table. Now I have a CADD program on my computer. I draw my own blueprints for my construction company. I can even produce a 3D walk through for my clients.

GB I know a girl with French curves and she aint that old maybe 29 or 30.  They are some nice curves too.

I knew a couple of them also but they were circa 1965!
Twins as a matter of fact! Same curves, same places, same texture and made for some interesting evenings?

I use a tailors chalk, you can get the chalk in a variety of colors and it wipes clean.  They come in a handy dandy little case too.  They also come as a pencil and inexpensive.

Any good craft store will have White pencels. Most are real soft lead and work real well

Some of the bigger packs of colored pencils have white... would that work as well? Granted, you'd be stuck with tons of other colors, but if you have or know kids, just give em the rest!
