I would say it is almost like cutting poplar, but the color is much more even and typically quite light. Although I have seen some with yellowish streaks in it, for the most part is it clear and whitish. Similar in color to holly, although it is much cheaper and available at greater widths. The main difference between it and holly is that is is far less dense.
Overall I like it. I think it holds up to most scroll sawing well and gives a nice clean base for staining or finishing with a clear varnish. And you can't beat the price.
