Telesight Headband Magnifiers
« on: November 03, 2010, 11:51:30 pm »
I had great customer service from Telesight this week and wanted to share it with the rest of you.

About 5 months ago I bought a headband magnifier from them and really liked using it. Fits right over my glasses and rotates up out of my way when I don't want it.  Sunday I dropped it on my cement floor and ruined the 2.5 lense.  I'm kinda blind without it, so I sent them an email right away asking if I could buy a replacement lense, and if so, how much?  The next morning I got a reply from William there, saying he was putting one in the mail immediately, at no charge.  I received it tonight.  I'm posting the web address for the unit I bought in case anyone else is interested.  I'm blown away to get such great customer service!

Russ, I bought the first one shown at the top of the page, Item #1GMHM.  Actually, I bought that one but with the light (4 leds), but that was a waste of money.  Not bright enough.  Tossed the light into the trash.

I first bought a flourescent magnifier, but it seemed to always be in my way, and kept moving around.  The headband solved all that for me because I can just flip it up when I don't want it, and it's always positioned to where i"m looking.  I bought the glass unit because that doesn't scratch easily, just breaks if one drops it onto a cement floor!

Their quick action in getting me a new lens plate and at no charge is what really impressed me, but the unit is well built, and the lens plates snap in and out easily for changing the magnification. I wouldn't be without it.

I have a head mounted glass and was thinking of getting a stand mounted magnifier, what do you feel the pros and cons are of each type?

I was thinking about getting one. I guess this is a good time to do it.

Malc, the headband unit probably isn't for everyone... nothing is.  But it meets my needs very well.  As for pros and cons, their pretty much what I said in my earlier post.  One other con would be that they don't give additional light as does the big flourescent units.  I solved that by just mounting a small clip-on fixture on my scroll saw, a DeWalt 788.  Cost me less than $10.00.

The headband is comfortable enough that there have been a couple of times that I had pushed the lens up to do other work, forgot about it and walked into the house still wearing it.  My wife thinks it's a cute tiara.. lol.
