EULA on old XP
« on: October 11, 2010, 11:09:05 am »
Tried to use Word on the 5-6 year old XP. Pop up box said am supposed to accept a EULA or it won't open.
Does that mean Microsoft is not longer supporting it or what? Any help will be appreciated.
Should I accept? Panic mode here!

Short for End-User License Agreement, the type of license used for most software. Accept it.  :)

Yes, I know what it is, but don't understand why it is appearing now after 5 years of using Word.

Have you ran Windows Update Lately? Or Office Update?  Sometimes when you run the update, or if you have automatic updates on, you will have to accept the new EULA.

It's probably harmless, but if you're concerned, download and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.  If it's a spoof program, this program will probably know about it.

The free version is awesome.

Also if you just use the basic functions, you can download Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/ It's FREE - I had a copy of Office2007, and found it to be to much, even for me - the Computer Geek that I am.

Thank you all. I did accept the EULA, and all is fine. Yes, it does update automatically. Just didn't expect anything like that after so long a time.
