Nmaes and letters
« on: October 08, 2010, 12:58:15 pm »
Hi all, Being new to scroll sawing I have been collecting patterns and wood and playing around with ideas. Here are some names and letters I cut out of 3/4" cedar. I liked the workability of the wood. Oh! and the smell! Oops! I just realized that the M is backwards in the pic. (or did I cut it that way?)  :)

So, you're a little dislexic.  Great cuts though.

Nice job Plumber.  Where did you get your 3/4" cedar?  I like the look of it alot.

I got the cedar and others from a craigslist ad. A guy here in the burbs of Chicago. He had a lot of wood and types but I could not afford it all. I got one cedar plank about
10' x 8" x 3/4". I got some birch, maple, and cherry too. Now what to do with it!

Nice work!  I find it hard to practice like that.  I just want a thing I can share!  But I guess you shared these so what do I know?!

Janet, you can get cedar boards from Lowes - at least around here you can.  They call it one inch but it is really 3/4 (why aren't wood thinknesses what they say they are?  Drives me nuts.  You'd think people working with or selling wood would be more exact but they aren't).

Becky I had the same complaint, about wood size, a few years ago & it was explained to me. If you brought rough sawn wood then it would be the correct size. The smooth wood we buy is DAR wood - Dressed all Round - this is why it is smaller.

Note name of website!

And Wanda is correct, these are "Dressed" sizes.
