Disassembled the whole thing.
Cleaned all parts with lacquer thinner and steel wool so nice have a nice surface now for 'overcoat' of satin poly.
TOP...Thought about just leaving the 'burn ring' and other nicks, gouges, etc. for authenticity but decided to get busy with the Makita orbital sander and see what I could accomplish. Many hours, sanding sheets, dust masks and tired arms later I now have a 400 grit 'almost' flaw free top.
Today's project is to move the various parts to the inside air-conditioned work area and prepare for the poly and stain the top with "Golden Oak Stain". Tried it on the underside of the top and it will match almost perfectly.
In between sanding I prepared a few scroll projects that I can cut today and tomorrow.
I run in spurts and right now I am on a Scrollin' 'Roll'!
AND Monday I have a special Visitor coming...Report and photos to follow!
I hope everyone has a good weekend and makes lots of sawdust!
