Dan....that is what is so much fun about this team and league.
You get caught up in the spirit of what I envision 'sports' to be about.
It takes the 'game' and returns it to the players and fans. Sure the level of play is not at the Major League level but the rules are the same and the players are not chasing the almighty 'buck'.
The stadium is small, comfortable and best of all AFFORDABLE! With my multiple game ticket purchase my seats in the first row behind the home dugout are $9.00 each. You can't buy a 12 oz. beer for that at most major league parks!
I caught a foul ball at a game over the Labor Day weekend and what do I need with a baseball (I have several autographed from previous seasons). There was a seven year old boy sitting behind me through the whole game intently watching and waiting with his ball glove ready. I turned around and handed him the ball and got the biggest smile I have seen in a long, long time AND an immediate "Thank You"! That alone was worth every penny I paid for the tickets.
Our left fielder happened to be in the ondeck circle and saw what I did. After his 'at bat' he came back to the dugout, grabbed another ball and autographed it for the youngster tossed it to me and pointed to the boy with a big grin on his face! Later the boy's grandfather caught me on the way to the concession stand and told me it was the boy's first visit to a 'real ballpark'! I know there were two lumps under that child's pillow that night.
That is what sports are SUPPOSED to be about!
