Lettering?
« on: September 12, 2010, 03:34:30 pm »
I am working on 10 Commandments and finding it is getting tedious and taking a long time with all the lettering. Anyone enjoy the lettering as much as cutting designs?

I wonder if anyone would notice if I left a few out?

ChaplainRon....
I'm thinking it would depend on WHICH ones you left out!
We would likely all have our choices.....

I love doing the lettering!  Like on my "Good Morning Let the Stress Begin", my favorite part was the bottom lettering.  I think it's because I love using the spiral blades so much better than the others.  I started with the regular blades too... but I guess I wasn't too stuck in my ways to make the switch.

So, are you using the spirals for them Ron?

I have enjoyed larger lettering but this small text is getting to me. I am using a spiral blade and have not had much time to work on it. It is taking me much longer than my other projects and I like the gratification of seeing something emerge from my sawdust more quickly.

It's The 10 Commandments, not 9 or 8 or anything less. LOL
When I have alot of lettering to cut, I take breaks and don't push myself. 8)

For the record! I will NOT leave out any of the TEN! It was a joke. 8-))
I may struggle with one from time to time but I would never compromise the list God has given me. Number 10:Covetousness is my biggest problem. I have lusted after sanders and equipment owned by others. I must confess it as sin and thank God for what I do have and wait on God's timing.

scrolling is a hobby for me. I want to enjoy the time I spend with it. I have enough things in my life to teach me patients. That is why I turned to scrolling.

I guess I am learning that many words on a project may not be a good choice for me. I think by working on other things that I can complete quickly and doing the lettering a little at a time will work for me. It may take weeks or months... But I will finish it.

Thank you for your recommendations. Have any of you done this project or one like it?

ChaplinRon I to struggle with number 10: and looking at other peoples tools and wanting them. But every day I go into my shop I thank God for the tools and the talent he has given me to make things from wood. I also want to challenge myself to make the ten commandments on wood but haven?t brought myself to take on such a big project. I struggle with tiny letters on wood to so I?m sure I would have to plan on taking several months to finish. I will pray for you that this projects get done in a timely manner.

It's all a matter of perspective.  A fellow from our local woodworker's guild spent 10 years off and on scrolling the Declaration of Independence.  http://www.leaderherald.com/page/content.detail/id/523775.html?nav=5011  this is a link to the newspaper article from his home town regarding his project.  I bet that makes your project seem a little less daunting.  Do a little at a time and you will surprise yourself when it is done.
