Corian Supplier
« on: July 23, 2010, 04:58:56 pm »
Steve posed the question in his email "Because it is so expensive to buy and ship I would like to find someone selling small blanks targeted to crafters. Any ideas?"

I found this:

http://www.coriartspecialties.com/retail.html

Still seems pricey though.

What exactly is corian. Sounds to me like the stuff kitchen worktops are made of. Or am I totally of the mark here?

It IS what countertops are made of.  Not all, but the corian ones.   ;)

Check your local craigs list.Last summer I found a bunch of sink cutouts and have been making cutting boards from them. The guy was going to use it and never got around to it.Work was slow and he had to sell it all.I bought it all for $75.I used most of the cool colors already.

Corian is a DuPont poroduct. Yes it used for counter tops. Some much more too.

I have it in my kitchen counter tops and LOVE it.

They left me the cut outs.   Might try it.!!!!!    8) 8) 8)

Janet,
Check out Ebay. I have purchased some Corian pieces from a couple of people off Ebay at reasonable prices for making pens.

Another source of corian you might want to check out is the Habitat for Humanity stores.  My local store had a bunch of demo countertops from Lowes that were donated when they changed their displays.  They weren't much use for anyone else, as they were short and had a sink or stove opening in them, but they yeilded about a 2 x 3 section from each side.  I got quite a bit for $10, and it goes to a good cause.

Better make sure you wear a good mask when cutting, as it can do damange to the lungs.  Edward

Some design stores sale samples so you can go home and match.  I got 6 pieces that way.  Also, check with the cabinet makers in your area, they tend to throw out the cutouts and ends.
