Before I put down the story you will need some background info. I was born In SA and lived there a big part of my live. The country was bilaugle(?) back then, meaning English and Afrikaans and at school you were required to take both languages. Now in some area's Afrikaans was the prodominant Language and especially at farm schools kids did not learn the english as in towns, their english was generally a bit poorer than that of town kids. Having said this I hope you get the following.
One day a farm school gets a telegram that the inspector would come around the next day and test the kids on english. So everybody tries to polish up their English. So the day comes and the inspector walks into a class and asks: "What is wrong with the following sentence; 10 cows is grazing outside?" The class turns very quiet nobody ventures an answer, then Johnny looks out the window and puts up his hand and say" I know sir, 9 cows and 1 bull is grazing outside."
(English and Afrikaans kids often made up jokes about the other language)
