My daughter and family live in Littleton, CO southwest of Denver at the edge of the mountains.

Those 'guys' you saw are FREQUENT visitors to her subdivision. Were it not for her fence and large Lab who stays outside they would have no shrubs or flowers!
I went with her one afternoon to drop some things to a friend in another part of the neighborhood about 4:30 in the afternoon. She pointed out that she was driving very slowly because it was 'moving' time for the elk. When we reached her friend's house she couldn't drop off the package!
There were 7 elk in the front yard and I counted  20 more on other yards i the area. And that was just the front yards!
You don't want to mess with a 1,000 pound unpredictable animal so you just go about your business and leave them alone.

After all WE moved in to THEIR neighborhood!
