Layed Patterns

Hi Guys:

I don't know about you but I find layer patterned projects boring.  I agree they result in a great 3-dimensional effect but other than repetitive cutting, they require a significant amount of wood.

I like the looks of several of them that I've seen but, agree that (unless one really lights your candle), they tend to be boring projects.

I agree with Buey1. I find them interesting and unique but would never consider cutting one. But that is just me.

I have an idea to make a layered personalized sports plaques. 

Thanks to Steve's video I was able to make a sample piece using Inkscape.  There are not the same commands as Corel but I did find work arounds.

the LBK is for Lady Blue Knights my granddaugther lacrosse team.  We are going to paint the layers the team colours and then we will see about next step for a personalized plaque with team logo, name and number etc.


Will post once painted but this is unglued right now.

Hi Bill. I'll be honest. They are not my favorite patterns to cut either. Mostly because they
require so much wood(I'm cheap) and time. The ones that look good to me are very complex designs. My
designs were very basic and that does not show the best features of this kind of project. My patterns were
more of an introduction to the art than what I would consider good examples.


If you cut  a large and complex layered project you may have six layers with hundreds of
interior cuts. That's a lot of wood and time. These patterns were initially created for
laser cutters. Time to cut is not much of a factor with a laser.

Hey guysngals....  Well I have cut many of Alex Fox patterns and heres my take.
Stack cut of 4 layers.  Sure repeat type cuts for each, but I figure when all layers
are cut and assembled finished etc. I have FOUR pieces to offer for sell.
I Get $40.00 for each.  So making total of $160.00 after all is said n done Makes Me Happy.
