Cutting Boards

My Granddaughter's school is having a fund raiser and this is my contribution.

Steve's pattern (slightly modified).  Wood is maple and walnut.  Finish is mineral oil and beeswax.

I just cut that one yesterday.  I didn't go all fancified like you did.   Yours turned out much nicer than mine.  It is just some hard maple.  I'm going to do a couple more but make them a little more elegant like yours.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Very nice, as my saw is awaiting parts I glued together walnut, maple and ash strips, I have planed and sanded the resulting boards and now wait for the parts for my saw so I can finish them. I see you used mineral oil and bees wax for a finish, are there other alternatives for a finish? I thought of using canola oil but worry about it not drying.

Vegetable oil and canola oil etc can turn rancid.  Not recommended for cutting boards.  There are salad bowl finishes on the market specifically for this use but MS is much less expensive.

I do a lot of end grain cutting boards and I was told  never to use canola oil for sure.

I have used walnut oil, and a couple of premixed cutting board finishes but like mineral oil and then coat with a mixture on beeswax and mineral oil..

There is a good article at Woodwhisperer on this subject.  This is were is started to make end grain boards. (our club does group buys on material and at last count we made over 150 end grain cutting boards and probably more cheese boards as we are up to 185 cheese knive sets)
